The varsity girls soccer team’s exciting season came to an end after making it into sectionals and being ranked as the sixth seed. The first sectional game was held on Sunday, October 21st, against Edgemont at home with a 5-0 win for Irvington and the second was on Tuesday the 23rd versus Briarcliff with an 0-3 loss.
Throughout the Edgemont game, Irvington played excellently. The opening goal was scored within the first two minutes by sophomore Lara Greene. Greene followed with another goal during the second half. Throughout the game, Miranda Farman played gracefully and consistently assisted her teammates. Later in the game, senior Sofia Garcia scored. Center mid Chloe Garcia scored twice, concluding the game. Together, the varsity girls soccer team advanced into the second round of sectionals against Briarcliff.
The following game against Briarcliff was tough. However, the girls played with determination and full hearts. Despite the team’s great effort, Irvington lost 3-0 to Briarcliff. But the team was still happy with how the season turned out.
“It overall was a great season full of fun and laughter. The seniors kept us motivated, made the season fun, and held our team together,” said Greene.
As the season concluded, the team said goodbye to their senior players: Miranda Farman, Sofia Garcia, Jane Flynn, Natalie Kletter, and Skylar Sloane. All of the seniors were amazing role models for the team and their leadership and enthusiasm helped carry the team all the way to sectionals. They definitely will be missed next year.
