Baking During Quarantine: Eating Your Insta Feed

Taylor Lee's cookies decorated with royal icing

By Reinesse Wong

With students stuck at home all day, it is inevitable for boredom to creep in. One activity students can try is baking. There are many simple three ingredient recipes out there that taste amazing! Some Irvington students have even opened up accounts to showcase their baking, such as juniors Taylor Lee and Esha Shenoy.

Taylor has created decadent desserts such as cookies decorated with royal icing and beautiful cakes. You can see her creations at @tlc_bakes on Instagram.

Esha has also made fantastic desserts, such as pear galette, black bean brownies (The healthier version of a brownie), and Tiffany Co. inspired macarons! You can see more of her at @esha_creates on Instagram.

Taylor talked a little about her motivations for baking. “With all of this time on our hands, I’ve been baking a lot. I’ve made lots of lemon blueberry scones, cookies, cakes and more! I love showcasing my creative side within the things I bake—decorating is my favorite part”.

Esha bases some of her creations off of people or objects to give her inspiration. “I really love cooking and baking because it’s a great stress reliever. I used to always watch my dad bake banana bread every Sunday as a kid and that’s pretty much where it all started! I’ve always loved learning about different cultures and there’s no better way than through food!”
