Students may have noticed a recent addition to the Student Academic Commons: a vending machine. The machine was recently installed and is still being set up to give students another place to get snacks and food during the school day, especially when the cafeteria is crowded or closed for the day.
Although the vending machine is a recent addition to the commons and does not yet contain any snacks, many students have already noticed and spoken up about it. It’s been speculated that the addition is here mostly because of the coming schedule changes for the 2026-27 school year where all students will have one major lunch period.
Overall, some students said the location of the vending machine makes it convenient because the Student Academic Commons is a place where students pop by or hang out during their free periods. Since students often spend time there before school, during free periods or after classes, having a vending machine in the commons could make it easier for students to get food without leaving the area, which could reduce the amount of people waiting in long lines in the cafeteria during a limited-time lunch period.
Sophomore Dario Gryka shared his opinion on the addition: “I think it’s good to add more options for food around campus, especially with the coming changes.” Many students feel that having another place to get food could be helpful when the cafeteria becomes more crowded.
For now, students are waiting to see how the vending machines are going to be used, but many agree that adding more food options around the school is a positive change.
