Irvington High School Gears Up for the 2024-2025 Student Council Elections

As the school year draws to a close, Irvington High School is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming student council elections for the 2024-2025 school year. This crucial event offers students a chance to shape their school experience by electing leaders who will represent their voices and work towards improving the school community.

Campaigning officially kicked off on Tuesday, May 21, with candidates putting up posters and handing out treats to gain support from their peers. The energy on campus is palpable as candidates make their case for why they should be elected. The excitement will reach its peak on Wednesday, June 5, when candidates will deliver their speeches in the campus theater in front of the entire student body.

Voting will take place online via Google Classroom. Election forms will open at 8 AM on Thursday, June 6, and remain open until 1:05 PM on Friday, June 7. Results will be shared with the candidates on Friday, June 9, and announced publicly on Monday, June 10.

For the school-wide positions, all roles are unopposed. Olivia Liu is running for President, while Alexandra Cloutman is running for Vice President. Henry Lobel is running for Secretary/Treasurer, and Tessa McCrae will continue to hold the role of Media Liaison.

In the Class of 2025, Alex Shapiro is running uncontested for President, and Annie McFeetors is unopposed for Vice President. Massimo Ferrari seeks to become Secretary/Treasurer. Representing the seniors, Jonathan Guerrero, Benjamin Kroop, and Alexandra Lyashenko are all in the race for representative positions.

The Class of 2026 features a competitive race for President, with Julia Welter, Jayin Sawhney, and Chunghyun Kawata all campaigning for the top spot. The Vice President race includes Max Baron, Laiba Shaukat, and Adam El-Hakim. Running for Secretary/Treasurer are Ryder Spino and Daisy Hodges. The candidates for class representatives are Maddie Okun, Haidan Wiles, and Luke Calabrese.

For the Class of 2027, the candidates for President are August Mollo and Jonah Tubman. Aaron Portnoy, Petra Rancic, and Zoe Cantillana are running for Vice President. Anya Foley and Gabriela Vukelj are candidates for Secretary/Treasurer. The sophomore representative candidates are Ben Epple and Justin Barger.

The incoming freshmen, the Class of 2028, have Isabella O’Reilly and Jake Bloom running for President. The Vice President race includes Samuel Lee, Ashley Shapiro, and Dario Gryka. Running for Secretary/Treasurer are Emilia Doncov, Neel Rikhy, Alice Schneider, and Paul Van Haetsdaele. Representing the freshman class, Julia Lamb, Anna Rushton, Brooke Lee, Owen Liu, Charlie Nadler, Ally Nguyen, Byron Stock, and Jake Piersol are all vying for representative positions.

As the campaign period intensifies, students are encouraged to engage with the candidates, ask questions, and attend the speeches on June 5 to make an informed decision. Every vote counts in shaping the future of our school.
