Irvington Football Falls in Opener

By Kale Heuter

The Irvington Football Team played their home opener this week on Tuesday against Briarclif. Even with the loss of 14-30, the Bulldogs put on a solid performance. Mason Canton’s two touchdowns put the team on the board with a score on both sides of the ball. His 20 yard reception along with a 60 yard pick six made the game competitive.

Following the game, Canton said that “we played a decent game, lots of good moments and ideas were shown”, however “mental mistakes really cost us the win”. On the plus side, Irvington led at half 7-2. But according to team Captain Marcus Canton, the team “struggled with blocking and subbing towards the end due to the starters cramping up” The offense couldn’t get anything going, leading to the defense really being pushed to the limits throughout the second half.

Even with this loss, Mason Canton said that now we keep “pushing and look forward to homecoming.” The Bulldogs will try to get their first win of the season against Rye Neck on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
