Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Irvington High School’s homecoming and pep rally look contrastingly different than those of the past.
Unfortunately, the bleachers packed with green and white spirit at sports games and during the long awaited pep rally were not possible given the current circumstances this year. Instead, the Student Council partnered with the Advanced Publishing class in order to release a video showcasing Irvington Bulldog spirit in a responsible way.
The video began with the Irvington Bulldog mascot throwing pies in the faces of the student council members. Isabella Macchia then sang the Star Spangled Banner, followed by short messages from the fall sports team captains.
The band performed their classic “Go Big Green” song along with the flag team, and Mr. Whitehead announced the winners of the homecoming court. Josiah Acheampong and Cristal Arvelo were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.
“Although this year’s homecoming was unlike those of the past, the green and white spirit still shined through under the masks. The Irvington community seems happy to be back on campus and on the field/court, regardless of the new protocols put into place,” said junior class vice president Tess Davidowitz.
