Putnam Valley defeated Irvington 52-49 in the girls Class B final at the County Center in White Plains yesterday.
Despite pulling to within a point with just over 30 seconds to play, Irvington was unable to move ahead, as Putnam Valley held on to dethrone the defending state champions. The loss also snapped a string of five consecutive Section 1 championships for the Bulldogs.
Abby Conklin and Grace Thybulle each finished with 18 points and combined for eight asssists assists. Katie LeBuhn had a team high 13 rebounds.
Last Tuesday, Irvington won their semi-final game (53-30) against Briarcliff to advance to the “gold ball” game.
