As fall arises, the Irvington High School Boys Soccer Team begins another year of excitement and anticipation. The team kicked off the season starting 4-0-1, showing promise early on.
This year, the teams are led by Coach Lombardi and Assistant Coach O’Sullivan. The experienced coaches must direct and coach the team in the right direction. They are sure to be at the top of a season full of triumph.
On the attacking side of the ball, juniors Griffin Warner and Joseph DeNardo have proven to be goal scoring machines. They both have tons of ability and skill, powering the team to early victories, and ensuring the more to come.
On defense, the talent, experience, and stability of seniors Alex Shevrin and Joseph Rosario. Opposing teams will struggle to get by the formidable duo.
Leadership will be a key part of the success of the team. They lost 10 seniors this year, many playing a crucial role on the team, leading to questions about the lack of experience.
Speaking on this, senior midfielder Cormac Lyons said, “I think having a new team is gonna be difficult to adjust to, but we have a young dedicated team who are willing to put the work in.”
The captain expressed his feelings on the team prior to their first game against Valhalla. His remarks seemed to be proven true, after the Bulldogs won 4-0.
Wednesday September 17th is Irvington’s homecoming match. They will compete in an under-the-lights showdown against Scarsdale High School. With the team coming off multiple wins, they appear to be in great form for this huge match. Students are encouraged to come to the game and wear white, as it is a “whiteout” game.
Last year, the team lost in the first round of the playoffs to Pleasantville. Although it was a disappointing finish to an otherwise successful season, it gave Irvington something to build on heading into the crucial 2025 season.
One member of the team, junior Joshua Diamond said, “I’m very excited for the opportunity this year to prove a ton of people wrong. It’s going to be a very fun and exciting year.”
