New Assistant Soccer Coach: Coach O’Sullivan

In the robust community that is Irvington, new faces always come to add to our diverse biosphere. A new edition to the Irvington School District and the Boys Soccer team this fall is Mr. O’Sullivan. With a background in physical and health sciences, you can find Mr. O’Sullivan’s smile throughout the school halls as he is a Physical Education instructor and Health teacher. When school is out, he joins Coach Christopher Lombardi with the Boys Varsity Soccer team as an assistant.

O’Sullivan is a great personality to add to Irvington with great standards. When asked what he expects out of his players, he stated, ”I expect a strong work ethic, competitiveness, good character both on and off the field, and proper etiquette/sportsmanship.” 

Despite past success and lots of promise the Varsity Boys Soccer Team has struggled to get similar results thus far in their season. When asked how he thought the team would fare going into the second half of the season, O’Sullivan remarked,” I expect our team to have a strong second half of the season. Our schedule hasn’t been easy, with playing 8 road games in our first 9 games. But I expect our team to keep stepping up our game as we head into a lot of league games these next few weeks.”

Branching outside of the team, Irvington is one of the many elite and highly regarded public schools in Westchester County. When asked why he you chose Irvington, he said,” Growing up in Rockland County, and working the past few years in Westchester, Irvington’s school district has such a strong reputation throughout the lower hudson valley area. I knew it would be a great opportunity to work in such a tight-knit community, and I was beyond excited to get the opportunity to teach and coach here.”

Although only being in Irvington for a short amount of time O’Sullivan has been embraced by so much. When asked what his favorite part of his experience thus far has been he claimed that “It’s difficult to pick just one favorite part, because it’s been a wonderful start for so many different reasons. Something that has stood out to me is how supportive everyone has been, from colleagues, parents, administration, and students. So many people have been eager to help and support me, as I’ve been transitioning into this wonderful community.”

We all are grateful to have Mr. O’Sullivan around and welcome him in the Bulldog community.
