The Irvington Boys and Girls Track Teams competed in the State Qualifier meet on May 30th and May 31st. The first day of the meet was held at Arlington High School, and the second day of the meet was held at Suffern High School.
The only athlete from Irvington who qualified for states is Indy Minkoff. He came in second in the 3200 meter dash, with a time of 9:41.69 minutes. The team is very proud to have Indy represent Irvington at the state meet.
The boys 4×4 team came up short by one spot in the qualifiers. They came in second behind Bronxville, which prevented them from getting a bid to the state meet. These athletes were Alex Shevrin, Anish Joshi, Kian Vasudev, and Taiog Cypher. This is a young squad that has a lot of potential in the future.
Alex Shevrin said, “It sucks that we came in second, but it was a great experience and I had a ton of fun running with this team throughout the season”.
Also, referring to the potential of his team, Shevrin said, “The future is bright and I expect big things next year in the Winter and the Spring”.
Ruthie Liang came in third in the Open 400. Unfortunately, this placement did not allow her to qualify for states, but is still a great achievement.
Lastly, the Girls 4×4 team came in third in the state qualifier. This placement did not allow them to qualify for the state meet, but the team is very proud of their placement and efforts.
