Today marks the anniversary of the beginning of independence of the Dominican Republic and Irvington High School held an event on Monday to recognize Dominican Independence with a celebration in the atrium. It consisted of classic Dominican dishes, music and games.
“It was a good job of representing [the culture] with games, food, and dancing,” said junior Mason Canton. “It was a good opportunity to learn about the culture.”
“Good representation of independence which was quite important,” said Sofia Garrigo, junior, “but didn’t quite get the full scope of Dominican culture.”
She added, “Hispanics aren’t a majority in this school and events such as these give insights into other ethnicities and cultures.”
