The Irvington School District recently decided to switch many lighting systems throughout the schools to LED lights. The high school and middle school buildings will be receiving new lights, as well as the light fixtures outside.
Mrs. GM commented on the benefits of switching to LED lighting, saying “The LED lights help save energy and are more green, thus reducing our carbon footprint. The lights are also better for our eyes and are recommended for learning. The warmer, brighter lights are great for classrooms and can help with concentration. LED lights also use lower voltage resulting in savings. Finally, they have a long lifespan and therefore the maintenance required of our staff is far less.”
LED’s are extremely energy efficient compared to the classic light bulb. LED’s consume approximately 90% less power than the classic light bulb. This results in a dramatic decrease in power costs.
While there is no date set on when this project will be completed, it is expected to be finished before Spring.
The Irvington School District continues to move in the right direction towards technology advancements.
