During the 2020 sports seasons, while there were hiccups and road bumps due to COVID-19, every pro and major college sport was able to finish their season. Except one. This was college basketball. College basketball players and fans have been waiting for this moment for over two years.
The NCAA’s March Madness tournament is the best and most entertaining thing in sports. It doesn’t matter if you are the biggest fan of the sport, or have never watched a game in your life, everyone loves picking there 64 team bracket. With teams like Illinois, Gonzaga, Baylor, and Michigan headlining this year’s tournament, we have some of the usuals (Kentucky and Duke) outside of the bracket.
The excitement for March Madness is always like no other, but this year there is a special buzz, mainly because of the cancellation of the 2020 season just days before the tournament.
The thing that makes March Madness so special is how many teams make it in to the tournament via conference playoffs and play-in games. The first benefit of this is it gives you more games to watch. When you love a sport you want as much action as you can get, and the more games and teams involved the merrier. Another benefit of this is it gives smaller named schools who can win there conference the opportunity to compete with some of the bigger schools. One school that was able to make it in was Iona, and they will be a 15-seed taking on the two-seeded Alabama.
The third benefit is the bracket. There isn’t a bracket for a six- or eight-team playoff but there certainly is for March Madness. The 64-team bracket lets you pick games and with so many games it gives you so many different upsets and winners to choose from.
While Gonzaga is the overwhelming favorite to win it all, it is called “March Madness” for a reason, as fans have no idea what will happen on any given day. The games will be a blast and all sports fans are excited to have this tournament to watch once again.
