Super Bowl 55: Brady’s Bucs Blitz Defending Champs

By Trevor Annicharico

On February 7th, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won 31 to 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.

The Bucs were the first team to ever play the Super Bowl at their own home stadium, and Tom Brady won his seventh championship in 10 tries. Going into the game this was one of the most highly touted quarterback matchups of all time. Tom Brady, 43 years of age, going for his elusive 7th Super Bowl ring in his first season with a new team against Patrick Mahomes, 25, arguably the greatest talent to ever touch the field.

But Tom Brady was too much for the Chiefs defense and, boy, was the Buccaneers defense swarming Mahomes. Mahomes was pressured 29 times by the defense, the most in super bowl history. Mahomes also ran 497 yards to avoid the Bucs pass rush, which was the most by a QB all season.

Leader of the offensive line, Eric Fisher, tore his achilles the game before and was obviously missed by that Chiefs’ offensive line as they gave Patrick Mahomes no time to throw.

As the game was wrapped up Super Bowl MVP was Tom Brady for the fifth time in his career.
