Last week, the 2026 IHS Art Show was held, featuring student artists from grades 6-12. There was a great variety of art work, from paintings, sculptures, drawings, and much more. The event allows for all of the hard work of IHS student artists to put all their hard work on display and get acknowledged for it by their peers, teachers, and family.
One of the featured artists in the show was sophomore Emilia Doncov, who showcased some of her amazing drawings and paintings that she has created this year.
I interviewed Emilia, and asked her about her artistic goals. She said “I want my art to look like captured moments of time. I use a lot of figures in my art, and it emphasizes the idea of movement.
I also asked her about why she makes art, and she told me “I make art to express emotion”. She also talked about what she values in her art. “I place a lot of importance on aesthetics. Personally, I like to maintain realistic values especially in peoples structure and anatomy. However, I have been trying to incorporate more abstract shapes and colors especially in my backgrounds. I am doing this to challenge myself creatively and extend the meaning of my pieces. I make my art work visually pleasing while telling stories at the same time.”
A lot of hard work is necessary for the art show to happen every year, but in the end, it is always such a special event because it allows for artists of all grades and levels to take pride in their work and show off what they have been working hard on.
“It was so cool to see all the art that everyone’s been working on all year,” said junior Kayla Zhinin. “I think the art show is super impressive.”
From the half portraits that the 6th graders make every year to the sophisticated sculptures and paintings made by upperclassmen, the art show truly gives everyone an opportunity to shine.
