On October 21, 2026, Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee confirmed that there would be a reboot of the beloved comedy show on Hulu. Stars like Lea Michele and other rumored cast members will return to the show in their original roles. The series has already been written by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, and 10 other original actors have been in contact with the creative team.
The original Glee, which first aired in 2009, followed a glee club at McKinley High School, called the New Directions, who navigated teenage drama while preforming the most notable songs of their era. The show is a favorite to many, as it explores intense themes while remaining positive and incorporating covers to interesting songs. Owen Baumkirchner, Irvington sophomore, said “I loved the original show because everyone had amazing singing and the mashups were amazing”.
Additionally, the soundtrack of the show is beloved, and the Glee Spotify account has 4.1 million monthly listeners. Although the return of the show is highly anticipated, fans mourn the dearly departed cast members, Cory Monteith, who passed during the filming of the original series, and Naya Rivera.
Heather Morris, Chord Overstreet, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Jane Lynch, who were all members of the original cast, have expressed great interest in returning for the show, yet their appearances have not been confirmed. Murphy chose to reboot the show because it has become popular in all audiences, including younger individuals who did not watch it when it was released.
The show has been hinted at for a long time by cast members, who were loyal to Murphy and his creations, yet nothing had been in the works until this announcement. “I grew up watching Glee with my mom and two brothers,” said Irvington sophomore Sam Peres. “I think it would be very important and interesting to see the new take on it”.
