Seniors Create Two-Episode Series about Irvington History

Two IHS seniors, Elliot Riseman and Emma Jee have launched two episodes of a video series documenting segments of Irvington’s history. The first episode will be released on Friday, and the second episode will be released on Saturday as a part of the high school’s Homecoming Week.

The first episode focuses on the East Irvington School which formerly was on Taxter Road. The second video is centered around the history behind the Sterns Estate, which encompassed instrumental parts of the Irvington community today, such as the high school, middle school, and O’Hara Nature Center.

Over the summer, Riseman and Jee began gathering information and photos after Riseman first came up with the idea of researching into the East Irvington School. “Initially, I wanted to research an old building on my street just out of curiosity, but after finding out more I became more interested in the town’s history. There were so many cool little details and moments in old photographs to discover,” Riseman said. Eventually, Riseman and Jee decided to create a series about notable places and people in Irvington into bite-sized videos that everyone could enjoy.

The two seniors also collaborated with the Irvington Historical Society during the research process, and would like to thank Chet Kerr and the Society for their help throughout the entire production of the series.
