Supt. Harrison Announces Retirement

By Matthew Jacoby

On February 15, 2024 superintendent Dr. Kristopher Harrison released a statement announcing his retirement from the Irvington school district. He has been the superintendent for the past 12 years.

This year he has been on a leave of absence due to health reasons, and now he has made the decision to retire because of his health.

In his statement he said, “While in Irvington, I have truly enjoyed everyone in the District and the community. It is a special place that has taught me so much as an educator, leader and person. There is no question that my days in Irvington are the highlight of my career.”

In a follow up statement from the Board of Education, they thank Dr. Harrison for his dedication to the schools and community for the past 12 years. They also announced that they will begin the search for a new superintendent.

“Now turning to the future and the Board’s plans for the upcoming school year, the Board is eager to embark upon the process of finding a permanent Superintendent to lead our District in the future. To that end, after carefully considering its options, the Board has engaged the firm of Hazard, Young & Attea (“HYA”) to lead this comprehensive and thorough search process.”

This is the same process they went through when they hired Dr. Harrison 12 years ago. They also said they are beginning the search for a new superintendent immediately.
