IHS Band Performs at Philadelphia

by Samuel Andrade

On Friday, March 24th, the IHS band is going on a trip to Philadelphia. It is a two-day trip that consists of performances by the IHS jazz ensemble, wind ensemble, and marching band.

The first performance they will be doing is at The Shops at Liberty Place in Philadelphia. The performance will start at 11 AM and last around an hour.

The gig will consist of songs from the wind ensemble such as Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon. One of the songs, How to Train Your Dragon, is conducted by senior Will Leitner. He also arranged the music for this song, making sure it was able to be played by our wind ensemble.

The jazz ensemble will also be performing at this time with songs from Earth Wind & Fire and other hits from the 70s and 80s.

The following day, Saturday, will be their next performance. It will consist of the IHS marching band performing at a Philadelphia Flyers game.

The band will be performing their marching band songs which will consist of tunes such as “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz and “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple. Additionally, the drums will be playing their cadences throughout the performance.

Joshua Lee, a clarinet player, said, “I’m very excited to go on this trip since it is not something we usually do. I’m interested to see how it turns out.”

This is not the first time the IHS band has performed outside of school as they performed the national anthem at a Mets Game in May of 2022. These performances are hopefully a step in the right direction for the band led by Ms. McCumber.
