Should School Start Later?

How could changing the start time of schools affect things?

During the earlier periods of the day, everyone seems exhausted, but would moving the start time back be the best solution, or would that create more problems?

If the start time were hypothetically to be moved back then students at IHS would greatly benefit from this. A later start time would allow everyone to sleep for longer each night. Students would have a better chance to get the recommended amount of sleep, 8-9 hours. Getting more sleep is directly associated with better grades and study habits. Although it sounds great, what are the negatives?

One of the downsides to school starting later is that the school district would face some challenges. First, the district would have to handle bus schedules. It’s already difficult enough for them to get buses, changing that schedule could make things even worse. In pushing back the start time everything after school gets affected. Concerning after school activities or sports, students would be at school much later. Lastly, the parents would be affected. They would have to adjust their work schedules to the new school schedule.

Seeing both sides of the argument, I believe this argument could go both ways. At this point I don’t think changing the schools’ start time would be beneficial at this point in the year. Most people are probably used to this schedule and wouldn’t want to ruin it. However, for a different school year this could positively impact the IHS community.
