Bulldog Family Fund (BFF) During the Pandemic

The Bulldog Family Fund (BFF) is a fund that supports Irvington students and families seeking financial aid.  The Bulldog Family Fund ensures that all students in our district are able to participate in daily life alongside their peers, regardless of their family’s economic status. Families of four who make less than $87,000 a year are eligible to receive money and goods from the fund.  Nearly 9% of Irvington’s students (115 children) were eligible to receive a free or reduced priced lunch last year.

BFF provides these families with school supplies, books, test and test prep fees, instrument rental, and yearbooks.  Families are also provided help with costs of non school related items such as clothing, groceries, and summer camp through this program.

Amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, the Bulldog Family Fund has received even more help than usual.  I talked to Natalie Guerrero, the co-chair of BFF, about how the Coronavirus has impacted the organization. She described Irvington as a town that has always been very generous, however “since the pandemic, the donations have really increased and I think it’s because people want to make a positive impact in their community.”  She even stated that they received donations from children who had collected money to give to BFF.  She also mentioned that Stop and Shop gift cards have been a big hit for families in need throughout the pandemic, as they have purchased over $8,000 in gift cards.

The Bulldog Family Fund is an important part of the Irvington community, as it allows for students and families in need to have similar opportunities as their peers, regardless of their socioeconomic status.  In the time of this pandemic, BFF is more essential than ever.  If you would like to donate, visit this link! https://my.cheddarup.com/c/donate-to-the-irvington-ny-ptsa
