F/W 19 Fashion Season

By Ben Hymowitz

As the physical seasons change in nature, so does fashion. A couple of weeks ago, the new fashion season of Fall/Winter 2019 started once again. Fashion is usually separated into two seasons, Fall/Winter (F/W) and Spring/Summer (S/S). The F/W season is a format that a lot of brands follow and some have just picked up the separation of seasons recently.  Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Supreme, Kith, other various “High Fashion”, and “Streetwear” brands are some of the few that follow this separation

Supreme, a modern streetwear giant, teased the F/W 19 season by showing Sean Pablo, a skater on the Supreme skate team, wearing a jacket that said, “Supreme is love”. So far this season, Supreme has collaborated with the NBA, Ben Davis, The Velvet Underground, Lacoste, Fox Racing, and Honda. It turns out that the dirt bike, in collaboration with Honda, was stealthily given out, or “backdoored” to friends and family of Supreme. The highly anticipated collaboration was announced multiple times, appearing in the F/W 19 Supreme preview and was posted via Supreme’s Instagram along with the “release date”.

Today marks the opening of Supreme San Francisco. The shop will be located at 1015 Market Street, between the city’s SOMA and Tenderloin neighborhoods. Supreme has a tradition where they release an opening “Box Logo” tee shirt whenever a new store opens. Any article of clothing with a Supreme Box Logo has one of the highest resale values out of most of Supreme’s clothing. This year for the San Francisco opening, they released a black Box Logo tee shirt with the store’s address along with a phrase stating, “A beautiful place with beautiful people”.

Another, more respected, streetwear brand is Kith. Kith was established by Ronnie Fieg in 2011 and it’s latest collaboration was with Nobu, a highly recognized and worldwide Japanese establishment. Prior to the release, Kith had a Friends and Family dinner at Nobu NYC. In 2015, the Kith enterprise launched a new concept titled “Kith Treats”. Kith Treats is a Cereal Bar where patrons can choose an ice cream, cereal, and a topping. At Kith Treats you can choose from an Ice Cream Swirl, a Milkshake, or a Commuter Bowl (a bowl of cereal with milk). The Treats menu, features celebrity creations by Action Bronson and Virgil Abloh of Off White.. As a streetwear brand, it’s making an impact on other aspects of fashion as well.

Currently, there is a lot taking place in the world of fashion. These last couple of years have brought trends that are here to stay. Brands like Kith and Supreme could be a shorter term trend, but brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci are most likely going to be popular forever.
