Ebola Reaches NYC

by Aidan Denahy

The United States’ fourth diagnosed Ebola patient is being held in New York City at Bellevue Hospital Center. The patient, Craig Spencer, was a doctor working in Guinea to help treat the Ebola outbreak, and upon his return to JFK airport did not feel or show any symptoms of the virus. He even went for a jog and visited a bowling alley before realizing he had caught Ebola.

Spencer’s wife and friends are now in quarantine, and according to Governor Andrew Cuomo, “We are as ready as one could be.” He assured the public that “[they] had the advantage of learning from the Dallas experience.”

The City and Health Department are making it clear that all residents of the surrounding area are safe, and that the virus will not spread as long as everyone cooperates.

“It is scary,” says sophomore Will Felix, “It is spreading and you never can be completely sure that you’re safe.”

Other students are not so worried, “It doesn’t scare me, I’m glad a doctor got it, I’m sure he knew the procedures to keep others safe once he discovered he was sick,” says sophomore Jacob Gyory.
