Due to concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19 in Europe, the planned Spring Break trip to France for Irvington French students has now been cancelled.
“It is with disappointment and sadness that after much research, communication and deliberation, we canceled our upcoming trip to France due to the continued spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19),” IHS principal Ms. GM said.
“After meeting with Dr. Harrison, [asst. superintendent] Ms. Carol Stein, [French teacher] Ms. Dupre, and the chaperones, it was determined that the best option to take to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff at this time was for the district to cancel the trip.”
Ms. GM said that the group cancellation form was submitted this afternoon to Prometour and added that details about the cancelation and possible refunds will be issued tomorrow. Students who planned to travel spent approximately $3,500.
“I’m very sad that the French trip got cancelled,” said Ella Roth, a senior who planned to attend. “I was really looking forward to a great way to end out senior year by getting this incredible opportunity with my closest friends. I was looking forward to experiencing a new culture that I haven’t seen before.”
She added, “[The cancellation] is definitely not unexpected and not uncalled for. I understand that they want our safety to be the number one priority, but it is a little bit upsetting.”
