‘Lego Movie 2’ Sticks to the Formula

By Amra-Adachi Jean

Before I start, let’s get something out of the way (and a minor spoiler):

The song got stuck in my head.

Besides that, some people who have already reviewed Lego Movie 2: The Second Part have mixed feelings about it. Some say it’s a great follow up to the first movie. Some say it’s just gimmicky and doesn’t compare to the first at all.

As someone who definitely likes the movie, I can say that the “naysayers” do have a point. In no way does it compare to the first. Not even close.

However, no Lego movie can compare to the first. Not now, and definitely not in the future. It’s nearly impossible. What I can say is that despite having a hard act to follow, it’s a pretty good film. Something that I could sit through multiple times.

But that’s expected from a Lego movie (except for Lego Ninjago). The jokes were all funny, the surprises were all pleasant (and unfortunately I can’t get into it because I want to keep this review as spoiler free). And of course the ending which was also pleasant. It is obviously following a formula, and viewers may have liked something a little more new, but hey… if it ain’t broke.

I should only give this movie an 8 out of 10, but I like it too much so it gets a 9 for me. You should definitely go see it.
