Bliss Bakehouse, which opened next to the fire station last spring, has rapidly become a dessert favorite among members of the Irvington community. Their combination of diverse treats can make everyone happy. With all the hype surrounding Bliss Bakehouse, the paw print had to go to see if it was worth it.
When asked what the most popular menu items were, I was told that the chocolate chip cookie surprise (an Oreo stuffed cookie), the carrot cake mini, and the chocolate salted caramel bar were the most popular items. We were also able to try the brand new Oreo Cinnamon bun.
The first item I tried was the Surprise cookie. It was a very thick cookie, as there was an Oreo inside. It was just the right amount of fluff-to-crunch ratio, with the Oreo on the inside providing most of that crunch. It instantly gave me a home bake sale feeling, almost nostalgic. It is a very good cookie with the Oreo inside, truly elevating it. I would give it a strong 8.5/10.
The second item was the carrot cake mini. I love carrot cake and was very excited to try the item. The decadent cream on top of the cake was incredible and was the centerpiece of the cake. The cake was a good blend of all the strong flavorings in a carrot cake with no one flavor being too overpowering. There was a strong citrus aftertaste that made the cake feel refreshing. The little nuts on top provided a nice crunch, which complemented the other textures well. I think this was unbelievable and the best item on the menu. It is a perfect 10/10.
The third item I tried was the caramel bar. It was more of a brownie than a bar and was a very large one at that. It was really moist and didn’t leave my mouth dry like a lot of brownies tend to do. It was incredibly thick, allowing for the caramel on top to be able to act as a complementary piece to the brownie rather than the focal point. That being said, it was the strongest flavor in the brownie and really elevated it from just a simple brownie to a true high-end dessert. It was an incredible brownie that I would give a 9.6/10.
Lastly, the new item. The Oreo cinnamon bun. The bun was right out of the oven and still very warm. The cinnamon bun was very fluffy and had a somewhat strong cinnamon flavor, which paired very well with the Oreos and Oreo frosting on top. The Oreo crunch also paired well with the fluffy bun. This is a common theme of Bliss Bakehouse, where they pair a fluffy pastry with a small crunch. My only problem was that there was a bit too much frosting. It made it incredibly sweet and a bit too rich for my personal preference. That being said, it was still an incredible dessert, and I hope it can become a regular on the menu. I would give it an impressive 9.1/10.
Ultimately, I think we have our answer. Bliss Bakehouse is not only the best bakery in town, but I would say it laps around competitors like Crumble. If you ever want a dessert, Bliss Bakehouse is the place to go.
