Game day’s Killer Concession

By Abigail Souza

Savory hot dogs, a variety of candy, buttery popcorn, and drinks are only some of the foods offered at the concession stand during Irvington High School sporting events. The stand gives the audience a place to grab a snack and watch their favorite school teams compete. However, some students feel there are areas where the concession stand could improve, including its prices, lines, and the availability of more food options.

At the Irvington homecoming football game, students shared their opinions on the food and their experiences buying snacks during sporting events. “I think that the food is really good, but it is expensive, and the lines are really long. I think the people that run it are very kind,” said David Rus, a sophomore at IHS.

While most students enjoy the food currently available, others believe that the menu could include more diverse options beyond traditional sporting event snacks. Although the candy selection offers a variety of choices, some students would like more filling food options.

Parker Pressman, a freshman at IHS, said, “I think that for the foods sold in concessions, the candies have good options, but other than that, there should be more, maybe some more than just simple snacks.”

The long lines are another part of the concession stand that students have noticed, especially during busy sporting events. Despite these concerns, the concession stand is still a convenient place for students and families to get refreshments without missing the games.

The concession stand is also a way for the spectators to help support the Irvington High School community while also cheering on at athletic events. As sporting events bring students, families, and fans together, the concession stand is an important part of the experience. Adding more substantial food choices and finding ways to shorten lines are two changes many students would enjoy seeing take place.
