Recently, the school administration added a new artificial intelligence feature to Google Docs called Brisk. Brisk is an educational AI that teachers, and students can use to help them with tasks such as researching, and looking at document history.
When asked about this new addition, Dr. Blair, the director of technology at Irvington Union Free School District said, “I think especially under the guidance of a teacher, there’s a time and place for AI. Because you are going to enter a world beyond Irvington High School, we want students to have exposure to the most advantageous experiences.”
The administration is hoping that Brisk will help to streamline some of the simple tasks a student has to perform. Brisk can help evaluate your work, and help you research, ultimately cutting down on the time you have to spend working. A great benefit for producing work in a more efficient manner.
Beyond these perks for students Brisk is an advantageous tool for teachers also.
Mr. Williams, an English teacher at Irvington High School said, “I think the feedback tools are ok, but they feel a little impersonal. The feature I really like is inspect writing. There was a feature on the Google docs that was similar. It shows a video of you writing your paper in real time, and revising in real time. It allows me to see your process, and how much time you spent on this assignment.”
Despite this, Brisk is still currently in the testing phase. Eventually, the group of teachers who have been using it will describe their experiences to the district.
Clearly, AI features can be a great addition for students at Irvington High School, and will help students, along with teachers, cut down on unnecessary tasks in the future. Stepping into the future with Brisk is a crucial next step for the district.
