Chris Callahan’s Rehab Story

By Zach Surchin

Last year on October 10th 2024, Chris Callahan suffered a serious injury towards his throwing arm in a game against Byram Hills High School. This injury caused him to miss the rest of the season and start a long road to recovery.

It was a normal game where the Bulldogs were heading to play Byram Hills High School on a Thursday afternoon. The game started off very competitive but then all of a sudden, when dropping back Callahan took a hit that would tear his UCL.

This hit was very tough on Callahan. He was experiencing a very promising season, and tearing his UCL would immediately make him out for the year.

With this injury, Callahan would have to start a long rehab. This rehab started in November, and lasted all the way to June. This 8 month process was very annoying for Callahan. “It wasn’t that the rehab wasn’t challenging, it was just lengthy. I would have to do physical therapy everyday for around 5 months straight” Callahan stated when asked how challenging the rehab was for him. “It was a lot,” Callahan also stated.

This rehab took a lot out of him. There were countless late nights and rough go arounds. However, with all this Callahan was able to overcome it and get back to playing the game he loved. Callahan was finally able to return in late June to start OTA’s.

Callahan is very excited to be back and playing football again. “I’m so pumped to be back with my guys playing football again,” Callahan said when asked how it feels to be back and playing football again. His teammates are very excited as well. “It’s great to have him back. He is a great quarterback and leader,” said Riley Hein, senior tight end.

This was a very difficult part of Callahan’s life that he was able to overcome. The senior QB feels great now and has been playing great so far this season. Even though it was a very long recovery, at the end of the day, the rehab and all the work Callahan put in was worth it.
