On Wednesday night, June 10th the Knicks made the biggest comeback in NBA finals history. Down by 29 points early in the third quarter, they went on to take the game by a single point thanks to the clutch genes of the Knicks
The game started off with the Spurs building an enormous lead. Looking virtually unstoppable, they dropped 76 points in the first half which broke the record for the most scored by an on the road team. However, by the second half of the game, they started to crumble. Their offense practically vanished after halftime, managing only 30 points in the second half. You could also see Victor Wembanyama was physically fatigued affecting his defensive and offensive capabilities. This led to him missing 2 consecutive vital free throws in the last two minutes of the game
Luckily, the Knicks started to gain momentum. Chipping and chipping away at the hefty lead set by the San Antonio Spurs, they managed to gain the lead with a little over a minute left; however, Stephon Castle took 2 free throws and made them, bringing them up by 1 once again. The Knicks took a timeout and inbounded to Jalen Brunson who then missed a deep three. Then, OG Anunoby crashes the board and tips the ball in, bringing the score to 106-107 effectively winning the game for the Knicks.
When interviewing students and faculty you can tell everyone was pumped. Beloved AP World teacher and avid Knicks fan, Ms. Geelan called it the “miracle in the garden.”
Sophomore Dario Gryka called it “the greatest moment in NBA history.”
Sophomore Samuel Lee clearly loved OG Anunoby saying, “It was crazy and I wish OG was my father.”
Junior Alekssandr Knight saying “It was the most glorious example of athletic excellence in this day and age.”
Additionally, Junior Marcus Edme showed much enthusiasm noting that it was good and exciting.
Furthermore, Ellie Choi despite the fact she doesn’t really like basketball said, “the game was quite captivating and exciting.”
Freshman Shaan Sekhom even said, “I was drinking milk in my glass thing and when I saw that tip by Anunoby I dropped my cup on my carpet and at that moment I didn’t care about the glass on my feet I was rooting for the knicks “
All in all, Game 4 of the Knicks is going in the history books as one of the greatest games ever played in the NBA finals. Winning Game 5 would mean the Knicks would win their first championship since 1973.
