IHS Welcomes Five New Staff Members

By Juliette Daly

As the new school year began, new rules were introduced, and so were new teachers. Irvington High School has welcomed five new members to the staff this year, bringing excitement and change for the students here at IHS.

Some of the new additions to the staff include a new guidance counselor, a new spanish teacher, a new school psychologist, and lastly, a dean of students, which is a new role that we have not had at IHS until now.

The new guidance counselor, Ms. Pulice, was Ms. Attenello’s intern last year, and has now become a counselor exclusively for freshman students. The role of freshman counselor was added to allow for a more concentrated effort on supporting freshmen as they transition into high school. When asked what her favorite part of school has been so far, Ms. Pulice responded with: “My favorite part of Irvington High School so far has been meeting all the new students—everyone has been so welcoming! I’m excited to be an Irvington Bulldog and can’t wait for a great year ahead.”

The dean of students is a new role that’s been added to Irvington MS/HS this year, and Mr. Ferhad Razzak is the new dean here at Irvington High School. Mr. Razzak was asked what he hopes to accomplish during his first year at Irvington: “I hope to help all students have a safe, successful, and memorable school year! Be kind and be honest!”

Also this year, a new school psychologist has joined us, serving both in the middle school and high school. Ms. Birchard was asked what she’s most looking forward to while working in Irvington: “I’m most looking forward to forming relationships with my students and helping to support their social/emotional needs.”

We also have a new Spanish teacher who has joined us this year: Ms. Reisner. Ms. Reisner is a Spanish teacher mainly teaching freshman students. I asked Ms. Reisner what her favorite part of working in IHS has been so far. She responded, “My favorite part has been the faculty, the students, and the staff. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and made the transition so seamless, and I enjoy coming in every day.”
