As phones have been banned in schools due to the newly added New York state phone policy, it has affected the way students at Irvington High School order their lunch. Many students have expressed their frustrations about ordering food, and how the phone policy has made doordashing less convenient.
Throughout the past years at IHS, students have had the ability to doordash food to the high school whenever they wanted. This year, students have not been able to order during school hours because they aren’t allowed to have their phones. Instead of ordering during the school day, if a student wants to order food for lunch, their only option is to order their lunch prior to arriving at school.
Because students are left with the option of ordering in the morning, DoorDash orders from IHS students have drastically decreased.
Sophomore Luke Graeber shared his opinion on the situation. “I think it sucks because my parents are out, and I don’t have food until I get home. Normally, I get really hungry during the day, and DoorDash was a way for me to get food I loved while being in school.”
Students sometimes complain about the food the school offers, and seek DoorDash as a way to get tastier food during the day.
The new change shocked many students as they believe being able to order was an essential part of being a high school student.
Sam Lee, a sophomore, says, “A part of being in high school was being able to have the freedom to do what I wanted. Not being able to order food was something I looked forward to during this school year.”
A poll of 15 students was conducted, ranging from Freshman to Sophomores. 12 out of 15 students felt that not being able to order food to the high school was deeply saddening.
Many students throughout the high school are outraged at the new DoorDash policies, and feel that the school should make exceptions to allow students to order the food they love.
