Warner Bros. recently announced exciting news about it’s new live action TV series based on J.K. Rowing’s, “Harry Potter”. The show will cover the material of all seven known and loved books in the series.
The plan is to give each book it’s own season, making for a fairly long winded project. Producers of the show expect the release date to take place sometime during 2025 or 2026.
As for the cast, it has not been confirmed whether or not it will include any actors from the original ‘Harry Potter’ movies which star Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Due to the fact that these films are so popular and loved by many, the upcoming series has some large shoes to fill and high expectations to live up to. Just to put it in perspective, between 2001-2011, $7.7 billion in box revenues were brought in by the films.
Rowling is said to be an executive producer on the show, which has struck controversy due to her views that she has publicly shared over the past few years on the transgender community. There are multiple statements that she has released pertaining to gender identity. In one essay she wrote about trans activists and said that they are “seeking to erode ‘woman’ as a political and biological class and offering cover to predators.” Many are disappointed that Rowling has been so openly offensive to trans people. Her views have caused many fans of the series to intentionally try to forget the face behind the book, and have only been a disservice to herself and her own livelihood
No matter how good the series is, it seems like the original movies are almost unbeatable. Harry Potter fans are still looking forward to the release of this series nonetheless, and have high hopes.
