There were certainly many tears shed at Sunday’s 95th Academy Awards, as there was an abundance of Asian films, actors, and artists that won Oscars. Most notably, Michelle Yeoh, “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” became the first Asian woman to win best actress at the Oscars.

“For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight,” Yeoh says, “this [Oscar] is a beacon of hope.”

From the same movie, Ke Huy Quan won best supporting actor. Quan is of Chinese descent. The film, created by Daniel Kwan who is also Asian American, was nominated for 11 Oscars and won seven, including best original screenplay and directing.

Aside from “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” the short documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” and the song “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR” became the first Indian production and first Indian original song to win Oscars.

This year’s awards ceremony was one for the books, and is a great accomplishment for all Asian nominees and winners collectively.
