I just got done watching the finale to one of the longest running movie series ever: Halloween Ends! It was a pretty decent movie overall, but it was not perfect. I’m here to tell you today, (as spoiler-free as possible) my thoughts on the movie.
The first half of the movie just does not cut it for me. The first 10 or so minutes are an expositional recap, with a decently scary first scene. After that though, I was thinking to my self, “What’s gonna happen next?”
But nothing literally happens for a solid 30 minutes. Michael Myers, the star of the show, finally shows up at the 40 minute mark but then he’s only on screen for a few minutes then he disappears for a while longer. The second half is the best part of the movie for me, with an epic twist that gets the plot moving.
I think that the story being narrated by Laurie as she is writing her book is very powerful, and the social commentary of Laurie hanging onto her past was very interesting. People throughout the movie blame her for what Michael has done, saying that she caused it, and he would have gone away on his own.
Overall because of the way that the first half drags on and on, I think that Halloween Ends gets a score of 6.5 out of 10. I think there were a lot of unnecessary bits that caused it to get such a low score from me, and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 40%.
