This week I explored many of the options that the cafeteria has to offer to answer one question: How good is the food at Irvington High School?
I started with the newest addition to the cafeteria, the quesadilla station. I was skeptical of this new member of the Irvington High School cafeteria, at first. As I waited on line, the delicious smell wafting made me increasingly hungry. Unfortunately, that hunger continued to grow as the line took a very long time. Once I ordered my chicken and cheese quesadilla, I patiently waited six minutes until it was ready. The wait was worth it though. It was warm and soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside. The cheese, chicken, and tortilla ratio was perfect. The only downside was that the quesadilla wasn’t enough food to fill me. I required an additional bag of chips and a soft pretzel in order to satisfy my hunger. Overall rating: 8.5/10.
My next target was the Deli. My order was a turkey, ham, provolone, lettuce, and mayonnaise sandwich. Toasted. This process only took about 3 minutes. As I sat down to take my first bite, a myriad of flavors took over my mouth. The bread was crispy, the meats were tasty, the mayo creamy, and the lettuce crunchy. I thoroughly enjoyed the eating experience. This was a more filling meal than the quesadilla, however less yummy. Overall rating: 8.1/10.
My last prey was pizza. This, I was nervous about. To be completely honest it didn’t look very impressive. I grabbed a slice and paid while having a nice conversation with our favorite cashier, Fran. As I ate my pizza, I couldn’t help but wish I was eating a better pizza. It is nothing like our beloved town favorites, Tony’s or IPC. The crust was too hard, the cheese wasn’t cheesy enough, and the sauce left something to be desired. It wasn’t a bad slice, but it was nothing compared to a slice from a good pizza restaurant. Not only this, but it wasn’t filling enough as well. Overall Rating: 6.5/10.
I would say if you’re looking for a quick and convenient option, the pizza is the best choice, however; if you have time and want something tasty, head to the quesadilla station.
