Beijing Winter 2022 Olympics has officially come to a start as of Friday, February 4th. After the 2020 Tokyo summer Olympics, Beijing recommences the games.
The Olympics takes place across three different zones in China; Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou. However, Beijing is the primary zone as it will hold the opening and closing ceremonies.
The opening ceremony took place in the National Stadium, marking the official start of the Olympics. Along with a series of light shows, the parade of nations took place as each athlete marched onto stage delegation-by-delegation.
Nearly 3,000 athletes gather in Beijing to compete amongst 15 different sports; alpine skiing, curling, luge, ski, jumping, biathlon, figure skating, nordic combined, snowboarding, bobsleigh, freestyle skiing, short track speed skating, speed skating, cross country skiing, ice hockey, and skeleton. Additionally, seven sports will be newly featured this year.
Due to the Pandemic, the Winter 2022 Olympics will be only open to a select audience with no tickets being offered to the general public.
As of now, Germany holds the highest ranking with five gold medals, followed by Norway and Sweden, each with four.
