Lil Skies – “Life of a Dark Rose” Retro Review

By Eric Lavers

On January 10th, 2018, Lil Skies released his fourth mixtape, Life of a Dark Rose. The mixtape peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The only feature in this album is Landon Cube, who is featured in “Red Roses” and “Nowadays”. The album contains 14 songs, and is 41 minutes long. I have listened to this album in the past, but I decided to revisit it for the retro review.

Tracklist:
Welcome to the Rodeo
The Clique
Red Roses (featuring Landon Cube)
Lust
Cloudy Skies
Signs of Jealousy
Big Money
Tell My Haters
Boss Up
Garden
Lettuce Sandwich
Strictly Business
Kill4u
Nowadays (featuring Landon Cube)

This mixtape has always been one of my favorites, and that held true during my re-listen. I am a big fan of the majority of the songs in this mixtape. My favorites are “Welcome to the Rodeo”, “Red Roses”, “Lust”, “Kill4u” and “Nowadays”. The only songs I am not a big fan of are “Tell My Haters” and “Garden”. The rest of the songs I like, but don’t love or hate. I like the different kinds of songs that he has, the fact that not every song is the same thing over and over, which I feel is sometimes and issue for albums. Overall, this is one of my favorite mixtapes ever, and I give it a 9.5 out of 10.
