Teachers Eligible for Vaccines, But Will There Be Enough?

By Dylan Harrison

New York state is experiencing a vaccine shortage. Currently in New York certain types of essential workers like teachers and police officers, as well as people 65 and over are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. However many people who need it are not able to get it because there are not enough distributed doses.

Experts agree that vaccines are essential to return to some type of normalcy in school. Vaccines have been allocated specifically to teachers, and there are plans to open additional vaccination sites.

Some of the trouble has been with the scheduling web site. Many people have reported going on the website and having it crash or seeing available appointments and then trying to reserve them just to have the appointments disappear. This has caused some people to just quit and not make an appointment or needing to settle for a date far in the future like March or even April.

The vaccine shortage as well as the functionality issues with the website has added to the growing frustration of many people who just don’t want to live in fear of their health anymore.
