by Maxwell Ma and Wyatt McInerney

Irvington High School Juniors, Maxwell Ma and Christopher Zorn qualified for the Semifinal Round of the USA Biology Olympiad. In this national competition, students are tested on their knowledge of biology, which ranges from the fields of human anatomy and physiology, to cell biology, to ecology.

In order to qualify for the Semifinal Round, students must participate in the Open Exam and score in the top 10% of participants in the nation.

In an interview with Maxwell Ma, he stated: “The dedication that this competition required was immense, but it was richly rewarding to expand my knowledge of biology. I’m looking forward to participating in the Semifinal Round!”

Maxwell Ma also received the Certificate of Merit last year which only the top 125-225 in the nation received.

Maxwell and Chris will continue their endeavors when competing in the Semifinal Round on March 16.
