With the new school year and volleyball season kicking off, the girls varsity team has already shown tremendous amounts of dedication, resilience, and team spirit. With a solid 2-1 start to the season, the Varsity Girls Volleyball team is ready to set the tone for a competitive and memorable year of volleyball.
According to key team member Paige Swift, the team is experiencing success both on, and off the court. According to Swift, “The season has been going well. We are 2-1 in the beginning of our season. Although we lost our game last night we fought really hard against a good team so it didn’t feel like much of a loss”.
This attitude and mindset for this season sheds light on the positivity and confidence present in the locker room, and is sure to translate to games on the court. Despite the loss, the team continues to look at the positives and move on to the next one, rather than linger in the past and harp on the negatives. This mindset is what separates the good from the great, and demonstrates their desire to not only win, but improve and bond together as a team.
As a team sport, it is crucial that the team works together in sync, rather than working individually. Unlike other individual sports in which success is strongly based on one athlete’s performance, volleyball is about teamwork and unity.
Swift emphasizes this as well, saying that “We are working not only individually, but as a team because you can’t play volleyball as an individual”. Clearly, the Irvington coaches understand the significance of team chemistry and the concept of teamwork, rather than individuality.
Finally, players are motivated and driven within every moment in practice. According to paramount player, Piper Keltz, their team is both “passionate and dedicated”. With this energy and focus within practices, there is no doubt that it will set them up for success for the rest of the season. Throughout this season, this team is looking to not only pile up wins, but also grow amongst one another as a team, building bonds and trust.
Looking ahead, this team is excited to face any challenges head-on, willing to make the most out of any opportunity. With a spectacular roster of athletes and astounding staff members, it is no question that this season will be action-packed and extremely memorable.
