Is it a Cold or the Flu?

By Ross Cestaro

One of the worst feelings is waking up after a night’s sleep sick, so a main priority is trying to avoid this.

To avoid becoming ill, you should wash your hands before you eat and after the bathroom, making sure to lather your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, staying away from people who could be sick, sleep at least eight hours a night, wipe down common surfaces with disinfectant wipes, and invest in a air purifier for your home. These healthy habits will prevent you from falling ill.

Two very common illnesses are the cold and flu, and when you get sick it is important to identify which illness you have. A cold usually targets the upper body head area like sore throat, clogged sinuses, a runny nose, sneezing, thick mucus, ear congestion, watery eyes, and a headache. There is also sometimes chest congestion.

The flu, however, is similar to the cold but more severe. The common cold mostly targets the head area but the flu targets the whole body. Common symptoms of the flu are bad fever, chills, tiredness, and body aches all over. It also attacks your lungs and throat bringing a deep cough and thick mucus. The flu symptoms lead you very weak and fatigued but tamiflu can help as it slows the reproduction of the virus in your body.

Being able to understand the differences will help you treat your illness the proper way while not infecting other people. Staying healthy in your daily activities is the greatest way to keep yourself healthy.
