In order to settle the debate of whether sports or other kinds of television are the ultimate form of entertainment, IHS students have shared their opinions on this topic.
While some students believe that sports on television are too confusing or have too many advertisements, others believe that watching sports can help a person’s performance and be just as stimulating as a good movie.
Sophomore Firel Lang shared their opinion on sports, saying that “I just don’t really have a stake in sports. I don’t care about too many of the teams, I don’t really know too much about them, so it’s just kind of boring. There’s also way too many advertisements.”
Many students share these opinions. Part of the appeal of sports is rooting for a team, so it’s hard to enjoy watching a game if the outcome isn’t important to you. It can also be confusing for some people to watch sports if it’s not something that they do very often.
Tess Brady, a junior, finds sports too confusing to be enjoyable. “I don’t watch sports too often, so I don’t really understand the rules in a lot of sports.”
While sports can be hard to watch when you don’t watch them too often, for sports fans they are very entertaining. There are also many benefits to watching sports, including better understanding of strategy that can help people when playing the game themselves.
Freshman Sal Banino does curling and loves to watch it as well. Sal said that “especially if you play a sport, watching it can provide a lot of insight into what you can do better for your next game.”
Whether you enjoy watching sports or would rather catch up on a Netflix show, both of these forms of entertainment can be enjoyable. However, watching sports is better when you play the sport or have a team to root for.
