The Varsity Boys Basketball team went 0-2 at the Warnock Tournament over the weekend, coming in last place on their home court.

In their first game against the rival Dobbs Ferry Eagles, the team lost 70-28 in an absolute blowout. In a game that Coach Boykin called a, “lackluster performance” the Bulldogs couldn’t get their shots to fall and once Dobbs went ahead, they never looked back. “It was bad”, said Senior Jacob Constantine.

One bright spot from the game came from Junior Center, Jaden Jarrett. He led the team in points and rebounds and had many impressive offensive rebounds and hustle plays which kept the Bulldogs in the game during the first half.

In the Consolation game against Valhalla, the team had a much better performance, but still falling short in a close one, losing 64-57. Valhalla started off on a 15-0 run, but the Bulldogs came back to make it a competitive game.

Captain Taoig Cypher said “After our disappointing start to the season, my teammates and I knew we needed to turn it around.”

Turn it around they did, as since the tournament, the team has gone 2-0. First, beating Bronxville 67-47, led by Senior Taoig Cypher’s 28 points and 8 rebounds. It was great to see a bounceback from the team’s best scorer, putting the team back on track.

Cypher said, “We came out with energy, played tough defense, and hit our open shots. It felt great to get a win especially by a large margin and we’re going to use this win to build momentum and continue to play hard.”

The team used this momentum to beat Edgemont 56-49, with Junior CJ Steinberg putting up 15 points in the win.

It wasn’t the start they were looking for, but the team is 2-2 heading into their next matchup against Haldane on December 19th.
