The DECA club recently competed at their state tournament in Rochester. It was a three day event that lasted from March 8th to March 10th.
The DECA club is centered around business and requires students to use their knowledge and critical thinking to either pitch an idea or complete a test.
In order to qualify for the state tournament, students were required to place highly at a regional competition which occurred in January. Out of all the students who attend the regional competition, only a select few are able to qualify for states.
At the state tournament, some Irvington students were able to place highly. Seniors Alexandra Pollack and Clio Salles-Spar won third place in the business law and ethics category.
Alexandra Pollack shared that “DECA was such a fun experience. It was a really positive and engaging three days. Most of us were strangers before it but we all got super close. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for this club.”
Other Irvington students also garnered awards at the competition. Ilona Marinopoulos, Matthew Jacoby, Tane Kim, and Luke Mitchell were all recognized during the award ceremony, gaining honorable mentions.
The two third place finishers, Alexandra Pollack and Clio Salles-Spar, will be attending the national competition. This competition will take place from April 22nd to April 25th and will take place in Orlando, Florida.
