The New Problem With Electric Cars- Charging Stations

By Wyatt McInerney

Electric cars have had many problems in the past concerning safety, capabilities, and now the charging stations, which they need. From there not being enough electric charging stations, to them not working, owners and prospective buyers may steer away from purchasing an electric vehicle.

An article by “Insider” stated that “charging stations have major reliability issues, a new study found.” This report shows a major issue with electric cars, if even a small percentage of charging stations don’t work a considerable amount of cars can get stranded. As of now, some reports say as much as 25% of charging stations are unusable. If this number increases and it becomes common that charging stations don’t work, electric cars in effect cannot be used.

Another problem with these charging stations is how they aren’t always adaptive. If one car company takes up most of the space for electric pumps, this could lead to whole fleets of electric cars having barely any way to charge their cars on the road. This could lead to a monopoly in the electric car industry and the prices to skyrocket. All of these problems if not fixed, could cause major problems for getting rid of gas vehicles and switching to cleaner energy, which would greatly affect our environment.
