Should the Family Quarantine?

Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are currently under a "yellow zone" designation.

In these uncertain times of COVID-19, there are still many questions and concerns regarding what exactly should be done when someone tests positive.

Right now, the rules are that you must stay home for 14 days after contact or testing positive. This is a good idea because experts say COVID will leave your system after about 14 days. One thing that is missing from this is what the rest of the family or the rest of the people who they are living with should do.

It is a well known fact just how transmissive COVID is, and if you are living in the same house as someone with it, you are most likely to get it. For this reason, I believe that it is just as important to quarantine the people living with the person who has COVID-19.

According to the CDC, all these things count as “close contact” and if any of these things have happened to you, you should quarantine.

You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more.

You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19.

You had direct physical contact with the person (hugged or kissed them).

You shared eating or drinking utensils or they sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you.

If you are living with someone who has COVID there is a pretty good chance that all of these things have happened to you, but if not, at least one has. Based on these guidelines, it seems to me that quarantining the people who live with the person who has COVID-19 is an absolute no-brainer.
