Netflix’s new Bridgerton explores the life of Daphne Bridgerton as she makes her way into the marriage process during the Regency era in England. She struggles to find a suitor while having the approval of her family and society’s expectations. The series takes a modern twist with entertaining drama and gossip which is narrated by the mysterious character, Lady Whistledown. Throughout the show, there are clues and suspicions for the identity of Lady Whistledown, which makes the show more engaging.
I’ve realized the show is very similar to “Gossip Girl”- another drama series, because they both have an anonymous character who feeds gossip and secrets to the rest of the characters, and is eventually revealed in the last episode. If you like these types of shows, Bridgerton will definitely be to your liking.
The cast of Bridgerton is also very diverse unlike many period pieces which typically presents a very white society with limiting roles of women. The series shows how Daphne Bridgerton starts off as very naive with knowing little about love and marriage, but eventually transforms as she learns that her value should not be dictated by who she marries.
If you are are looking for a binge worthy quick series- that is 8 episodes and full of drama and gossip, you’ll definitely enjoy this series.
