IHS Hires First Female Principal

The Irvington School Board of Education officially appointed Ms. Juliet L. Gevargis-Mizimakoski as principal of Irvington High School at Tuesday’s school board meeting.

“It is my great privilege and honor to join the Irvington school community and serve as principal of Irvington High School,” Ms. Gevargis-Mizimakoski, who goes by “Ms. GM,” said. “I look forward to building upon IHS’s history of excellence through strong partnerships and collaboration with all stakeholders. Together we will support students in meeting the changing demands of today’s world.”

The Paw Print received confirmation of earlier reporting from Dr. Kris Harrison on Monday with the superintendent announcing to the high school staff that she was to be recommended for approval at the board meeting Tuesday.

“Juliet is a compassionate, talented educator whose leadership will be an asset to Irvington High School,” Dr. Harrison said. “Her experience and passion will complement that of our high school team in providing for the best possible learning experiences for our students.”

Ms. GM served as assistant principal at Tappan Zee High School for 11 years prior to her appointment. Prior to TZ high school, Ms. GM was an assistant principal and social studies teacher in The Bronx.

According to the school press release, Gevargis-Mizimakoski has a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications, and media studies from Fordham University’s Honors Program and a Master of Education degree from Fordham as well. Additionally, she received a Master of Science in administration from the College of St. Rose and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership at Manhattanville College.

She will begin on July 1, 2019.
