With the fall season just beginning and sports teams in full gear, members of the Irvington High School varsity football team have faced fierce competition head on.
Suffering the loss of many seniors in the graduating class of 2016, many had low expectations for this years younger team. Nonetheless, the Varsity boys had rose to the occasion on their very first game, winning against Croton-Harmon 22-8.
Playing on the team is a huge time commitment, practicing everyday after school and rising early on Saturday mornings for both home and away games.
On the 24th of September, the Bulldogs defeated the Yonkers Montessori Academy in a tight game ending in a final score of 24 to 22.
Beginning in 2011, the Irvington District began a membership with website Hudl.com in which players and coaches are able to make “highlight reels”, or videos that target a certain player in moments that stood out during a game or a collection of games. With the links to these videos posted on Facebook by players, friends, and family, the team has had an excellent presence on social media.
Despite the loss of our homecoming game versus Putnam Valley, in slew of a tough row of opponents, the team’s spirit has not proven to be damaged.
Junior middle linebacker and fullback Timothy Meszaros, when asked where the team is headed, stated “we’re going to Disneyland”.
